On Saturday, 4th May 2024, the Korean Cultural Centre Nigeria held a K-pop concert in collaboration with Jumparewa at Truck Central Abuja. The event which was held as a commemoration of the World Dance Day celebrated on April 29th yearly was also targeted at uniting previous K-pop dance competition winners & finalists as well as K-pop dance & vocal academy graduates of the Korean Cultural Centre Nigeria. In attendance were over 250 guests including, 10 journalists, 34 dancers and 12 performing teams. Some of the teams in attendance were Idez – Winners of the 2013 K-pop competition, Elevatorz ng – winners of the 2011/2012 K-pop competition, TSOD – winners of the 2015 K-pop competition and Northsidekingz – winners of the 2018 K-pop competition among others. The event began with an electrifying K-pop song mix performance by Jumparewa and Northsidekingz to set the overall mood of the event. Other groups danced in succession, thrilling the crowd with unique K-pop beats and sounds. The icing on the cake was also the free food and drinks ticket shared to those who arrived the venue early. Through the provision of the tickets, the audiences were able to visit any of the food trucks in the arena to order their choice of food and drinks within the price limit of the meal tickets. Photos:

On 29th & 30th April KCCNigeria held a two-day cooking class with sixteen (16) student chefs of Red Dish Culinary School to spread the awareness of Korean dishes and cooking methods. The dishes taught were Bibimbap (mixed rice with meat and assorted vegetables) and Gochujang Jjigae (Korean pepper paste soup). At the end of the cooking class, the students were gifted Gochujang and seaweed to enable them practice at home. Photos:

The Korean Cultural Centre celebrated "World Book Day" on the 23rd of April 2024 with 60 students of 6 public schools in Abuja. This event also doubled as the Korean Culture day event in April. The participating schools include; LEA Primary School Ketti, LEA Primary School Nomadic, LEA Primary School Gosa Sarki, LEA Primary School Wuse Zone 3, Greater Seeds Richmons Academy and Lea Primary School Sauka. The event was designed to introduce Korean literature to Nigerian students and to reignite the love for reading among children within the age range of 5 to 13 years old. During the event, the students had two book reading sessions: ‘Storytelling by Papa Saltang’ (a created character for the event acted by a Librarian) and for the second session, the students read a book with their teachers. After the two reading sessions, students were given a task to write out and do a presentation on what they learned in the group reading they had with their teachers. The books read was a contemporary Korean story book ‘Magic Candies' by Baek Haena and 6 folktales which include; The Sun and the moon, Greedy Granny, Hongbu and Nogbu, You should say Haneul-Cheon!, The Loyal Dog and, The Merchant and the Charcoal Dealer. On 21st March, the Korean Cultural Centre Nigeria held an event to mark World Poetry Day. The event titled World Poem Day: “Express Your Korea” was a poem-themed event to celebrate poetry, more so Korean poetry, and to allow the audience to express their experience with the Korean culture through poems. The event began with a brief presentation on poetry, the essence of celebrating World Poem Day as well as the story and works of modern Korean poets. After the presentation, there was a lecture on how to write poems by Mr Matthew Nweze, an English/Literature teacher at St Simon & Jude Seminary Kuje Abuja. The lecture was closely followed by a poem-writing activity where the audience was divided into groups of 3 or 4 to write and present poems about their experiences with Korean culture. At the end of the presentation, the best two poems, groups of one and seven were awarded and given small gifts for their performance. Photos:
