Abuja, Nigeria — The Korean Cultural Center Nigeria (KCCN), led by Director Jeon Ju-ho, successfully hosted the 5th Nigeria Taekwondo Coaches Seminar from April 23 to 24 at its Taekwondo Hall in Abuja.

The two-day seminar brought together taekwondo coaches from key institutions, including the Nigeria Taekwondo Federation, military and police units, and universities. The programme was designed to enhance practical coaching skills and improve overall performance standards among taekwondo practitioners in Nigeria.

Held under the theme “Re-establishing Fundamental Competencies for Improved Performance of Nigerian Taekwondo Coaches,” the seminar combined both theoretical sessions and hands-on training. Experienced instructors, including national team coaches and senior taekwondo trainers from security agencies, delivered intensive sessions on poomsae and sparring techniques, physical conditioning, match management, and athlete coaching strategies.

In addition to technical training, the seminar also addressed leadership in taekwondo. Mr. Tayo K. Popoola, President of the Nigeria Taekwondo Federation, emphasized the evolving role of taekwondo leaders in both public and private sectors. He highlighted the importance of consistent policy direction, inclusive decision-making, transparency, crisis management, negotiation skills, and the development of future leaders within the sport.

Participants noted that the seminar provided a valuable opportunity not only to refine their coaching techniques but also to reflect on their broader roles as leaders responsible for developing athletes and managing teams both on and off the field.

KCCN reaffirmed its commitment to supporting the development of taekwondo in Nigeria through continuous capacity-building programmes and sports exchange initiatives between Korea and Nigeria.
