The Korean Cultural Centre Nigeria (KCCN) is pleased to announce the 2026 Korean Film Festival, taking place this September at Silverbird Cinemas, Abuja.

The festival is designed to celebrate the richness and diversity of the Korean film industry, introduce Nigerian audiences to outstanding Korean cinema, promote greater appreciation of Korean movies in Nigeria, and foster cultural exchange and collaboration between Korea and Nigeria through film.

Over three days, audiences will have the opportunity to experience a selection of Korean feature films, Korean short films, and the winning work from KCCN Short Film Contest, offering different perspectives on Korean history, family, relationships, society and everyday life.

Thursday, 17 September 2026 — Opening Day

3:00 PM — Opening Ceremony

The festival officially opens with a ceremony welcoming guests and film lovers to the 2026 Korean Film Festival.

4:00 PM — The King's Warden (왕과 사는 남자)

The festival opens with The King's Warden, a 2026 Korean historical drama directed by Jang Hang-jun. The film explores the life of deposed King Danjong during his exile in 1457.

The film has been a major success at the Korean box office. According to the Korean Film Council (KOFIC), as of 3 September 2026, The King's Warden had recorded 16,921,889 admissions across 2,262 screens, generating approximately US$120.39 million in box-office gross.

Friday, 18 September 2026 — Korean Cinema

12:30 PM — The Book of Fish (자산어보)

Genre: Historical / Drama
Director: Lee Joon-ik
Release: 2021
Runtime: 126 minutes

Directed by acclaimed filmmaker Lee Joon-ik, The Book of Fish is a historical drama set during the Joseon era. The story follows scholar Jeong Yak-jeon, who is exiled to Heuksan Island, where he develops a relationship with a young fisherman and begins exchanging knowledge with him.

The film was released in South Korea on 31 March 2021 and stars Sul Kyung-gu, Byun Yo-han and Lee Jung-eun.

3:30 PM — Move the Grave (이장)

Genre: Drama / Family / Comedy / Fantasy
Director: Jeong Seung-o
Release: 2020
Runtime: 94 minutes

Move the Grave follows four estranged sisters who reunite after learning that their father's grave must be moved because of a modernization project. Their journey to find their brother becomes an exploration of family relationships, memories and long-standing tensions.

Directed by Jeong Seung-o, the film was released on 25 March 2020 and combines family drama with comedy and fantasy.

Saturday, 19 September 2026 — Short Films & Closing Feature

12:30 PM — KCCN Short Film Contest Winners' Works & Korean Short Film Screening

The Saturday programme begins with a showcase of the winning works from the KCCN Short Film Contest, alongside a selection of Korean short films.

This session provides a platform for emerging filmmakers and highlights the role of short-form cinema in encouraging creative expression and cultural exchange between Nigeria and Korea.

3:30 PM — Lucky Chan-sil (찬실이는 복도 많지)

Genre: Drama / Romance / Fantasy
Director: Kim Cho-hee
Release: 2020
Runtime: 95 minutes

Lucky Chan-sil follows Chan-sil, a film producer who suddenly finds herself unemployed after the death of the director she had worked with for many years. As she begins rebuilding her life, she encounters new relationships, unexpected challenges and questions about her career and future.

The film was directed by Kim Cho-hee and released theatrically in South Korea on 5 March 2020.

The festival will also feature a raffle draw for 10 lucky winners at each movie screening.
