May 23, 2025 | 16 Hit

Fifteen years after its establishment, the Korean Cultural Centre Nigeria (KCCN) is seeking to deepen cultural collaborations with Nigeria, focusing on film, literature, education, and cuisine. Since its inception on May 24, 2010, KCCN has facilitated cultural exchange through programs like K-pop and dance classes, Korean language lessons, Taekwondo training, and annual events such as the Korean Film Festival and Hansik Cooking Competition. The center has engaged over 300,000 participants and hosted more than 650 cultural programs nationwide.

Looking ahead, KCCN aims to explore new collaborative avenues, particularly with Nigeria's Nollywood film industry, given its global prominence. The center also recognizes shared literary achievements, noting that Nobel Laureates Wole Soyinka and Han Kang represent Nigeria and South Korea, respectively. Additionally, there's a growing interest in Korean cuisine (Hansik) among Nigerians, prompting plans to expand culinary exchanges. Event Manager Yujin Lee emphasized the potential for deeper engagement in these areas to strengthen people-to-people relations between the two countries.
