Poetry Competition marks Centenary of March 1st Independence Movement

The 9th Korea-Nigeria Poetry Competition Award Ceremony took place on April 11, 2019 at the Fraser suites Ballroom. It was indeed special as it coincided with the commemoration of the centenary of the March 1st Movement and the establishment of the Korean Provisional Government. 

 

The Korean Ambassador to Nigeria, Maj. Gen.(rtd) Lee In-tae represented by the Deputy Head of Missions declared the occasion open. Mr. Lee Jin-Su, Director, Korean Cultural Centre Nigeria (KCCN) performed a popular Korean poem after which the Director General, National Council for Arts & Culture (NTDC) congratulated Korea on the occasion and promised further collaboration between both countries.

 

The Arojah Royal Theatre performed the Korean play titled ‘Yu Gwan-Sun’ who organized  what would come to be known as the March 1st Movement against Imperial Japanese colonial rule of Korea in South Chungcheong. The March 1st Movement, was considered a peaceful demonstration by the Korean people against Japanese rule.

 

The 9th Korea-Nigeria Poetry Competition themed: Independence involved Adult and Student categories.

In the school category: Okoro Emmanuel. C. (Emergence) won 1st place and 50,000 naira; Praise Ebirim (Liberty for a Corpse) won 2nd place and 30,000 naira; Princess Izebe (Freedom Liberty Independence) won 3rd place and 20,000 naira.

In the adult category: Shamarang Silas (Blessings) won 1st place and 100,000 naira; Madu Chisom Kingdavid (Naked Reflections {Nigeria @ 59}) won 2nd place and 75,000 naira; Anyanwu R.C.N (The Perfect 7)  won 3rd place and 50,000 naira.

 

The over 200 guests present savoured every bit of the event.
