“MAGNOLIA & LOTUS”

JUNE BOOK REVIEW BY DEINSAM OGAN

Poems are admirable ways of emotional expressions, especially for the poetic mind. The expressions of emotions were finely captured in these rather simple verses as translated by Ian and T’ae-yong, which were originally written by Chin’gakKuksaHyesim (1178-1234).

As an individual, I observe life’s events and nature itself in patterns. Therefore, I believe that most poets are enlightened minds that appreciate the patterns with which they also see their world.

Haight and Ho have done a breath-taking compilation and translation in this volume of the KV Series Vol. 17. This work reveals clearly the kind of poet, that the great Hyesim was, is, and would be perceived.

The selection shows the pattern with which the poet views his surroundings and solitary life. You will not drop it, till you’re through!

Deinsam Ogan is poet, hymn writer, editor and researcher.
