REPORT OF THE 2012 KOREA/NIGERIA SCHOLARSHIP QUIZ COMPETITION (SEPTEMBER - NOVEMBER)

Introduction: The Korea/Nigeria scholarship quiz competition is an event that jointly organised by the Korean Cultural Centre Nigeria and the FCT Seconadry Education Board annually for the award two undergraduate scholarships to any two winners of the quiz among the Senior Seconadry Schools of the FCT. Last year ten schools were involved with GSS Nyanya becoming victorious and GGSS Abaji ending second place. Both schools were given a scholarship each for the 2013/2014 academic year in Korea which commences by March 2013.

The Preliminaries began on the 20th of September 2012 with Abaji Area Council＇s schools Atotal of twenty schools were randomly chosen to participate in this year＇s contest. They included ten old schools and ten new ones. The schools were divided into six groups for the zonal competition which took place from 17th - 19th October 2012 after which the following schools qualified for the finals:

1. GSS Tudun Wada
2. GSSS Tungan Maje
3. GGSS Abaji
4. GSS Kwali(Peplaced by GSS Deidei)
5. School For The Gifted, Gwagwalada
6. GSS Nyanya

The Finals

The Final competition took place on the Tuesdasy 6th November 2012 at the Education Resource Centre (ERC), Wuse Zone 7.

At the end of the whole exercise the Finalists stood thus:

1. SFG Gwagwalada         =  Gold                      -    93
2. GGSS Abaji                  =  Silver                     -    92
3. GSS Deidei                   =  Bronze                   -    85
4. GGSS Tungan Maje      =  4th Position            -    83
5. GSS Nyanya                 =  5th Position            -    80
6. GSS Tudun Wada         =  6th Position            -    73

• SFG Gwagwalada for finishing in 1st place won a 42 inch LCD TV, a Trophy, N70,000 Cash and 3 smart phones (one for each student).
• GGSS Abaji for finishing in 2nd place won a Trophy, N50,000 cash and 3 smart phones (one for each student).
• GSS Deidei(despite coming in as a replacement for GSS Kwali) finished in 3rd place and won a Trophy, N30,000 cash and 3 smart phones (one for each student). while the other schools received consolation prizes.
