July 2025 Cooking Class Introduces K-Snack Culture with Hotteok Paired With Vanilla Ice Cream

Abuja, Nigeria – July 22, 2025 – The beloved Hansik (Korean food) experience made a vibrant return in July 2025 with a two-day cooking class held on the 17th and 18th, celebrating Korean snack culture by introducing participants to Hotteok, a traditional sweet Korean pancake, paired with vanilla ice cream.

Hotteok, known for its golden-brown, crispy exterior and warm, gooey filling made of cinnamon, brown sugar, and crushed nuts, is especially popular during Korea’s colder seasons. The pastry was the highlight of the interactive class, drawing in a total of 16 participants (8 per day), including young people and cultural enthusiasts from across the capital.

Participants were taught how to make Hotteok using both locally available ingredients and pre-mixed Hotteok flour imported from Korea, ensuring an authentic yet accessible cooking experience. The hands-on session enabled everyone to engage with Korean culinary traditions in a personal and practical way.

Many attendees described the pastry as “easy to make and delicious,” with several expressing their intention to recreate the dish at home. Abbas Alliey, one of the participants, shared: “I plan to go home and teach my sisters. Hotteok is such a comforting and exciting snack, and it’s even more enjoyable when shared with loved ones.”

This initiative is part of the Centre’s broader commitment to promoting Korean culture in Nigeria. The Centre will continue to organize more culinary and cultural classes in the coming months, offering Nigerians immersive experiences into the rich and diverse traditions of Korea.
