Korean Cultural Centre Hosts 2025 2nd Term Taekwondo Graduation Ceremony
– 125 Students Complete 3-Month Training Focused on Competitive Growth –
Abuja, Nigeria – The Korean Cultural Centre in Nigeria (KCCN) held the graduation ceremony for its 2025 2nd Term Taekwondo students across three days : Tuesday, July 8; Thursday, July 10; and Friday, July 11 at the Centre’s dedicated Taekwondo hall in Abuja.
The event marked the successful completion of a three-month training program that brought together 125 students from various backgrounds and age groups. The 2nd Term session focused on tournament preparation, aligning with Nigeria’s competitive season (May to October), and provided students with an opportunity to sharpen both their technical and conditioning skills.
Coach Gbolohan Ogunmuyiwa, Head Coach of the KCCN Taekwondo Department, highlighted the emphasis on competition maturity throughout the term. “All poomsae and kyorugi techniques were taught from a competitive angle to build on the basic skills established in the 1st term,” he said.
Looking ahead, the upcoming August Summer Class and 3rd Term will shift focus to traditional Taekwondo elements, including hosinsul (self-defense), kyeokpa (breaking), and poomsae, in alignment with Kukkiwon standards. In addition, red belt students preparing for black belt promotion are expected to submit a written thesis on Taekwondo philosophy which is a requirement that reinforces the program’s educational and character-building approach.
Parents and adult students expressed their appreciation for the program. Mrs. Gani, a first-time parent at KCCN, shared, “At first, I was worried because my kids are just 5 and 7. But over time, I realized Taekwondo at KCCN is one of the safest programs available in this country.”
Mr. Ekwenibe, another parent, noted, “My daughters are always excited when it’s Taekwondo time. I’ve seen real improvement in their confidence. They respond to situations more quickly and boldly now.”
The Korean Cultural Centre in Nigeria remains committed to fostering cultural exchange and personal growth through Taekwondo and other cultural initiatives. With each term, it strives to provide a safe, inclusive, and empowering environment for learners of all ages.
