The Korean Cultural Center in Nigeria (Director: Jun Jooho) held a completion ceremony on Friday, July 11 to celebrate the achievements of 60 participants who successfully completed the 2025 K-POP Vocal and Dance Academy, a three-week training program conducted from June 23 to July 11 at the Center.

As part of the Center’s ongoing efforts to promote Korean culture and respond to the growing popularity of K-POP in Nigeria, the Academy has been held annually in Abuja, alongside other events such as K-POP festivals and concerts. This year’s program featured intensive sessions led by Korean professionals specializing in vocal and dance training.

Vocal trainer Kim Jun-Gyeom and dance instructor Lee Hwa-Won delivered a structured curriculum that included fundamental dance techniques, vocal exercises, rhythm and pitch training. Through tailored feedback and repeated practice sessions, the instructors helped participants build confidence and enhance their stage presence. Daily group rehearsals and demonstrations provided an immersive and engaging learning experience.

During the training period, advanced-level classes were also held on June 27 and July 4 for the winners of the 2025 K-POP Dance and Vocal Competition. These sessions focused on performance-level choreography and expression, offering participants practical tools for future K-POP stage performances.

At the ceremony, the trainees showcased the results of their hard work and talent through live performances of six K-POP songs, including aespa’s “Drama,” SEVENTEEN’s “Super,” JENNIE’s “Like Jennie,” Rent’s “Seasons of Love,” Ailee’s “Breaking Down,” and Hwasa’s “LMM.” Their performances highlighted the natural rhythm and expressive strength of Nigerian youth, impressing the audience and instructors alike.

Participants expressed their joy in receiving professional K-POP training in Nigeria and shared their appreciation for the opportunity to learn from Korean experts. Many noted that the experience gave them a renewed sense of confidence and deeper cultural connection.

Dance trainer Lee Hwa-Won remarked, “It was inspiring to see participants gain confidence as they gradually adapted to unfamiliar rhythms and choreography. Beyond simply mastering movements, they learned to express themselves and connect with others through the stage.”

Through this program, the Korean Cultural Center aims to go beyond passive appreciation of K-POP by fostering hands-on participation and creative expression among local youth. The Center plans to continue offering educational and participatory programs, further expanding the potential for cultural exchange between Korea and Nigeria through K-POP.
