2026 KCCN Hangeul Day Event
- Post DateOct 02, 2026

Every year on October 9, Korea celebrates Hangeul Day, the day that honours the creation of the Korean alphabet. This year, KCCN is inviting you to celebrate with an afternoon of learning, play and making.
Hangeul was created in the 15th century under King Sejong the Great, with a simple goal: that ordinary people could learn to read and write. Its letters are modelled on the shapes of the mouth and throat as we speak, which is why many people can learn to read it in a single sitting. Come and see for yourself.
What to expect
· A short talk on Hangeul Day. Find out why the alphabet was invented, how its letters were designed, and why it is celebrated today. No prior knowledge needed.
· The Missing Letters game. Work in teams to complete Korean words with letters left out, from food and culture to K-drama and K-pop stars. It is a puzzle game for people who love a challenge, and beginners will pick up a lot along the way.
· Hangeul postcard making. Write your own name in Hangeul, decorate a postcard and take it home, or leave one for someone else to find. All materials are provided.
· A mini writing contest. Write a short piece inspired by language, letters and connection, and compete for a prize. All writing levels are welcome.
