SAC on Screen May Edition: Chunhyang Jailbreak
- Post DateMay 21, 2026

The Korean Cultural Centre Nigeria warmly invites you to its 2026 May edition of SAC on Screen, our periodic arts/film showcase celebrating best of Korean performing arts.
Title: "Chunhyang Jailbreak" / Duration: 90 minutes
Unlike traditional operas, where audiences often rely on subtitles to follow dialogue and arias sung in foreign languages, Chunhyang Jailbreak is performed entirely in Korean, allowing audiences to fully engage with the story itself. As reflected in Hyangdan and Bangja’s aria, “What’s Wrong with Being Old-Fashioned?”, the production is filled with witty dialogue, playful humor, and irresistibly catchy songs that unfold through warm and lively melodies, making it impossible not to fall in love with the show.
What makes the performance even more vibrant is its rich use of the Jeolla dialect. Since the original story of Chunhyang is set in Namwon, Jeolla Province during the Joseon era, the thick and colorful regional accent adds an unmistakable sense of authenticity, humor, and energy to both the music and the acting—earthy, bold, and full-bodied, much like a hearty bowl of makgeolli
Please Note: This opera is entirely in Korean.
