2026 Sejong Korean Speech & Writing Contest

The Korean Cultural Centre Nigeria is now receiving applications for the 2026 Korean Speech and Writing Competition. Anyone who is studying Korean and is interested in participating is very welcome to join us. Please feel free to send in your work.

Note:

· Previous Korean Speech and Writing Contest winners who travelled to Korea are not permitted to apply. If you won previously for example, people who won but couldn't visit Korea because of COVID, you are welcome to apply this time.

· Participants are allowed to apply for both contest [speech & writing] only if they are available to attend the writing contest in-person in Abuja.


Eligibility:


• Open to Korean learners in Nigeria with at least two certificates from the KCCN Sejong Institute or the Online Sejong Institute.


• Students currently enrolled in an Online Sejong Institute course may also apply.


• Applicants must provide proof of learning/certification from a Sejong Institute (KCCN or Online).



1. SPEECH CONTEST (ONLINE & OFFLINE)


- Topic: 내가 한국어를 배우는 이유  [The reason why I learn Korean]


Application Procedure:

·          Make a 3 minutes video using the topic given.

·          Upload the video on Google drive and input the link on the Google form below. (Please ensure that your Google drive link is open for public viewing)

· The final participants will be selected and noticed via email to compete at the grand finale which will be held in KCCN (participants who are outside Abuja will participate via zoom, while those in Abuja, will participate physically at the centre)

· The finalists will take turns to do a final 2 – 5 minutes presentation of the topic and may get interviewed by native Koreans at the Korean Cultural Centre. The zoom meeting link will be shared to the finalists outside Abuja before the grand finale.

- Evaluation Criteria: Diversity of Content (30%), Fluency of Expression (30%), Accuracy of Grammar (20%), Accuracy of Pronunciation (10%) and Interaction (10%)

 

 

2. WRITING CONTEST (OFFLINE)

 

- Topic: 내가 한국어를 배우는 이유  [The reason why I learn Korean ]

- Length of Writing: 400 – 1200 Korean Characters

· Prepare for the contest using the topic given

· Only participants who will be able to come to the Korean Cultural Centre Nigeria office for the finale can apply for the writing contest.

- Evaluation Criteria: Diversity of Content (30%), Development of Writing (30%), Diversity of Expression (20%) and Accuracy of Language Use (20%)

 

3. COMPETITION SCHEDULES

 

- Submission Period: 16th April – 6th May, 2026

Final Candidate Announcement for Speech Contest: 13th May (Via Email)

Writing Contest: Tuesday 19th May, 2026, 10:00am

Venue: KCCN Class Room 

Speech Contest Finale/Award Ceremony: 19th May 2026 2:00pm

Venue: KCCN Studio

 

4. ABOUT THE SPEECH CONTEST FINALE

 

All participants should please note the following about the grand finale on 19th May 2026

 

For Speech Contest:

· All final participants will be given 2 – 5 minutes to speak on the topic and answer questions from the interviewers if any. As it is a speech contest, the interview and any questions asked by the interviewers will be said in Korean.

· For finalists outside Abuja, the speech contest finale will be held on zoom hence it is advised that everyone ensures they are in a network friendly and noise-free environment.

· For finalists in Abuja, the speech contest finale will take place in KCCN, hence all participants are expected to be seated at the venue at least 30mins prior to the beginning of the event.

 

For Writing Contest;

· All participants will be given a maximum of 45 minutes to write on the topic given.

· The writing contest will begin at exactly 10:00am hence it is advised that participants be at the venue at least 30 minutes before the contest begins

· KCCN will provide all writing materials for the writing contest.

· The winner of the writing contest will be announced during the speech contest finale at 2:00pm of the same day, hence please note that all writing contest participants will be required to wait and attend the finale alongside the speech contest finalists.

 

5. PRIZES

 

SPEECH CONTEST

1st Prize: N200, 000 & trip to Korea (Terms & Conditions Apply)

2nd Prize: N100, 000

3rd Prize: N70, 000

 

WRITING CONTEST

1st Prize: N200, 000

2nd Prize: N100, 000

3rd Prize: N70, 000

 

* Due to safety rules and other factors, trip to Korea is tentative and will be decided by the headquarters of King Sejong Institute.

The trip to Korea is also subject to change depending on the total number of applications we receive for the speech contest. If we receive less than 10 applications, the trip to Korea prize will be cancelled.
