This exhibition reinterprets the profound cultural value of hanbok, Korea’s treasured cultural heritage, from a contemporary perspective. Hanbok is more than just traditional clothing—it embodies the history, culture, philosophy, and aesthetics of the Korean people. Over centuries, hanbok has evolved alongside the lives of Koreans, adapting to the changing times while retaining its symbolic essence. By presenting it through the lens of contemporary artists, this exhibition seeks to explore new artistic values and possibilities born from the encounter between tradition and modernity.
Eleven participating artists have reimagined traditional elements of hanbok—its patterns, colors, and forms—through the language of contemporary art. Their works, expressed through diverse media such as painting, sculpture, installation, and video, offer a profound exploration of Korean identity and cultural essence. This exhibition goes beyond passive viewing; it emphasizes interactive and immersive experiences through convergent content that invites direct audience participation.
By experiencing contemporary artworks inspired by hanbok, visitors gain insight into the unique spirit and history of Korea, deepening their understanding of Korean identity and way of life. Furthermore, this exhibition aims to pass on the value of traditional culture to future generations and play a vital role in promoting Korean cultural heritage on the global stage.
