Ballet <Shimchung>

"Shim Chung" is a ballet based on the Korean folktale about a filial daughter who throws herself into the sea in the hope of restoring her blind father's sight.

Debuting in 1986 and considering one of Universal Ballet Company's best works in its repertoire, the production has been performed in 40 cities in 15 countries.

Non-verbal puppet show <Dallae Story>

Art Stage San's Dallae Story is a nonverbal puppet show about an ingenuous child named Dallae and her ordinary family whose lives are interrupted by Korean War (1950–1953). The piece does not directly discuss the war itself, but rather portrays the efforts of a family to overcome the hardships of wartime in a fairy tale-like fantasy. The story is expressed through hand manipulation of the puppets, beginning with Dallae’s birth to her sweet childhood with her family, and then finally to wartime, with sets of the four seasons representing both the stages of life and the passage of time.

Opera <Chunhyang Prison Break>

The Chunhyangjeon is one of Korea’s most iconic stories. Although its author and date of composition are unknown, it most likely originated as a work of pansori, a form of musical storytelling involving song and percussion, and was later adapted into prose during the reign of either King Sukjong (r. 1674–1720) or King Yeongjo (r. 1724–1776). The classic love story has since been rendered into several films, plays and other dramatic forms. Multiple versions exist, but they all adhere to the same basic plot.

Musical <The Last Empress>

Korea's first mega hit musical The Last Empress portrays the tragic life of Empress Myeongseong (1851-1895) of Joseon Dynasty (1392-1910). True historical events from Empress Myeongseong's early marriage with Emperor Gojong (1852-1919) in 1866 to her assassination in 1895 are presented in highly dramatic fashion. The musical has been performed over 1,000 times and was also staged in New York and L.A.
