The Asian Games 2018 Jakarta-Palembang have begun with an Opening Ceremony in Jakarta on Aug. 18. At this year’s Opening Ceremony, 200 athletes, coaches and others from the two Koreas marched together as one delegation, sending a message of peace to the world. The delegation wore white jackets and blue pants, the colors of the unification flag that they held in their hands. South Korean basketball player Lim Young-hee and North Korean soccer player Ju Kyong Chol held a large unification flag together, while South Korean Prime Minister Lee Nak-yon and North Korean Deputy Prime Minister Ri Ryong Nam waved to the delegation. This is the 11th time that North and South Korea have marched together at an international sports tournament, and the first time at the Asian Games.

On Aug. 19, day two at the Asian Games, 21 gold medals were up for grabs, out of the 465 gold medals in total that will be given out at the Games. Korea received two gold medals, three silver medals and six bronze medals. Currently, Korea is ranked as No. 3 on the 2018 Asian Games medals table, marking a good start toward Korea's aim to become No. 2 by the end of the tournament.
