Hwang Sok Yong - The Guest
An epic but not so opinionated tale of a century’s past, present, painted in beautiful yet horrifying pictures.
Hwang Sok yong gives a provocative account of the post and pre-colonial Korean society with an explicit and efficient use of the first-person and omniscient narrative. Sok-Yong takes the reader on an objective trip stringing gratifying ghost stories that present the reader with an in-depth picture of two different world from two different voices. A true masterpiece.
Modern Family - Cheon Myeon Kwang
A very special book with a subtle sense of humour that has the reader flipping through the pages slowly, hoping it becomes a never ending tale.
Myeon Kwan employs a modernist and an objective view that portrays the everyday life of a typical modern Korean family without the watered down illusion of a happy ending that most writers never get tired of. All in all, it’s a book I never regret reading
