Abuja, Nigeria – October 8, 2025   The Korean Cultural Centre Nigeria (Director Jeon Ju-ho) celebrated Hangeul Day with an engaging cultural event that introduced the scientific brilliance and beauty of the Korean alphabet to local audiences. Over 70 participants, including students and alumni of King Sejong Institute, gathered at the Centre’s studio to explore the creative principles behind Hangeul and experience Korean culture through hands-on activities.

The celebration began with a short documentary introducing the history and invention of Hangeul, followed by a “Design Your Korean Name” competition where participants created their names in Korean script. Other interactive programs included a Hangeul quiz that tested participants’ knowledge of consonants and syllables, and a K-pop name guessing game that blended pop culture with language learning.

Participants expressed great enthusiasm as they discovered the logic and artistry of the Korean writing system. Through creative and participatory learning, they were able to better appreciate how Hangeul embodies both simplicity and depth a reflection of Korean culture itself.

“We are delighted to see such strong interest in Hangeul among Nigerians,” said Director Jeon Ju-ho of the Korean Cultural Centre Nigeria. “By learning the Korean alphabet, participants not only understand our language but also gain insight into the values of creativity and harmony that lie at the heart of Korean culture.”

The event was part of KCCN’s continuous efforts to promote Korean language and culture in Nigeria, providing diverse opportunities for cultural exchange and education through the King Sejong Institute and various Korean Wave programs.
