The Korean Cultural Centre celebrated "World Book Day" on the 23rd of April 2024 with 60 students of 6 public schools in Abuja. This event also doubled as the Korean Culture day event in April.
The participating schools include; LEA Primary School Ketti, LEA Primary School Nomadic, LEA Primary School Gosa Sarki, LEA Primary School Wuse Zone 3, Greater Seeds Richmons Academy and Lea Primary School Sauka.
The event was designed to introduce Korean literature to Nigerian students and to reignite the love for reading among children within the age range of 5 to 13 years old.
During the event, the students had two book reading sessions: ‘Storytelling by Papa Saltang’ (a created character for the event acted by a Librarian) and for the second session, the students read a book with their teachers.
After the two reading sessions, students were given a task to write out and do a presentation on what they learned in the group reading they had with their teachers.
The books read was a contemporary Korean story book ‘Magic Candies' by Baek Haena and 6 folktales which include; The Sun and the moon, Greedy Granny, Heungbu and Nolbu, You should say Haneul-Cheon!, The Loyal Dog and, The Merchant and the Charcoal Dealer.
